What is this course about?
This course is designed to teach basic best practice on home and personal security. The emphasis is on home security; however, do’s and don’ts in cases of hijack and other scenarios outside the home are also covered. At the end of the course, the learner should be better empowered and equipped to potentially stop emergency situations from arising, and, if they do, to better handle them.
Some of the modules covered include:
• burglar alarm systems
• fire protection in the home
• CCTV surveillance systems
• emergency home plans
• firearms and the law
All home owners and tenants will benefit from this course.
Who should be doing this course?
This course will assist all home owners and tenants in domestic environments, to properly secure their homes, belongings, and most importantly their lives and the lives of their loved ones, by means of assistance in the preparation of adequate plans and procedures for many scenarios which can occur.

After completing this course, you should be able to understand:

• CCTV surveillance systems,
• How to prevent fire in your home,
• The risks and benefits of Firearms in your home,
• Home safety when away from home and travelling,
• Home emergency plans and kits.
How is your course mark calculated?
Your course is mark is calculated using the average mark obtained in each of the Chapter tests. In order to pass this course, you must obtain a final course mark of at least 50%. This means that even if you fail a few of the chapter tests, if your test marks in the other chapter tests are high enough you will still be able to pass the course. Good Luck!

We’ve created our courses to suit your busy life! The duration of this course is based on a student guide where one 300 – 500 word article is read per day, and the assessment is done on a separate day after the relevant articles have been reviewed. But you can do the course in your own time and at your own pace. If you choose to do two readings per day, it will take you half of the estimated time, four readings per day means doing the course in a quarter of the time etc. We leave that decision up to you!
