Via Afrika Adult English: Mind the Gap

Course Fee R799.00

What this course is about?

Before we communicate we need to ask ourselves the question: “What do I want this communication to achieve?” Do we want to persuade, command or request? Your vocabulary, tone and register should match up with what you want your communication to achieve so that there is no gap between your understanding of what you want and your audience’s understanding of this. Sometimes the meaning of a sentence is ambiguous and may have more than one meaning. We don’t want to create this kind of gap in our spoken or written texts. This course will help you mind the gap and develop the language skills to ensure that your spoken and written communication is clear, interesting and effective. This course will give you the tools to make sure that your readers or audience can interact with your text in such a way that their construction of meaning matches yours.

Who should be doing this course?

This course is designed as a general course for adults who wish to communicate more clearly with others and avoid ambiguity resulting from common language errors that may leave a reader or audience feeling a little lost. It will provide students with a more refined understanding of language structures and conventions and focuses on how to close the gap between what you mean and the meaning your audience understands.
